Kenya safari itineraries: 23 trips compared by length and price

Go2Africa's 23 Kenya itineraries, cheapest first, with the park fees that sit on top of them, the 15 kg bag limit on bush flights, the eTA, and the health insurance Kenya has required since October 5, 2026.

Wildebeest leaping into the Mara River during the migration in Kenya

Go2Africa's feed lists 23 safaris that start in Kenya, from a 9-day Masai Mara and Diani Beach trip at $3,900 per person to a 10-day Mount Kenya, Samburu and Mara trip at $22,600. One cost on top of them moves with the calendar. A non-resident adult pays $100 a day to enter the Masai Mara from January to June and $200 a day from July to December, a 2026 split that K24 reported in August.

What the 23 trips cost

Seventeen of the 23 start under $10,000. Length doesn't set the price: both 6-day trips cost more than the cheapest 9-day one.

Those two 6-day trips are built differently. Kenya's Tented Amboseli & Mara is a private overland trip that covers both parks for $5,500. Kenya's Big 5 Conservancy Safari flies in, lists only the Mara and Nairobi on its route, and starts at $6,090. For three parks by plane, the 9-day Amboseli, Samburu & Mara fly-in starts at $7,600.

A few trips are built for one kind of traveler. A Lion King Adventure for Kids is a 10-day family trip for ages 8 and up at $8,000. The Masai Mara Horse-riding Safari is an 8-day riding trip at $8,970. Four cross into Tanzania. The cheapest of those is East Africa's Masai Mara & Zanzibar, 12 days for $4,800; Crater, Serengeti & Mara is 10 days for $9,400, and the 13-day Kenya & Tanzania Sky Safari tops the group at $21,000.

The feed's prices and Go2Africa's own pages don't always agree. Kenya's Best-Value Mara & Diani Beach is $3,900 in the feed, downloaded November 5, 2026, but on November 7 its trip page showed $4,110 to $5,660 per person sharing, with rates listed for 2027 travel dates. Here are all 23, cheapest first, as they appear in the feed.

Park fees: the Mara doubles in July

The Masai Mara National Reserve charges a non-resident adult $100 a day from January 1 to June 30, 2026 and $200 a day from July 1 to December 31. Children aged 9 to 17 pay $50 a day in both halves of the year, and children 8 and under go free. Those are the rates on the fee table of the Mara Conservancy, which runs the Mara Triangle part of the reserve. Four days in the reserve in August cost an adult $800 in entry fees before a single night of lodging. The same four days in May are $400.

Amboseli is a Kenya Wildlife Service park. The 2025 KWS fee sheet charges a non-resident adult $90 a day there. In the Mara Triangle, a 12-hour ticket covers 6 am to 6 pm whatever time you enter, and the conservancy doesn't take cash.

Go2Africa's page for that $3,900 trip lists "all necessary permits, conservancy and park fees" as included. Before you pay, still ask whether the quote covers park fees for your exact dates. On a July trip that line is worth hundreds of dollars a person.

Migration months

Magical Kenya, the Kenya Tourism Board's site, calls the migration a year-round event, with the herds moving between the Serengeti and the Mara in search of water and grazing. It puts the most dramatic part, when they cross the Mara River into the Maasai Mara, from July to October. Those are exactly the $200 months.

If the river crossings are the reason for the trip, budget for the higher fee and book a camp near the river. If you'd be happy with the Mara's resident wildlife, January to June halves the reserve fee.

Bush flights and the 15 kg bag

Fly-in trips use small planes, and the bag limit is the rule people break by accident. Safarilink, based at Wilson Airport in Nairobi, allows 15 kg per person on most routes, hand baggage included, and only in soft bags. Routes to Diani, Mombasa and Zanzibar allow 20 kg. On a Mara-and-Diani trip, pack to the Mara limit. If you need more, the same baggage page offers a freight seat, sold at the adult fare, that carries an extra 75 kg.

Paperwork, advisory and health

You need an approved eTA from etakenya.go.ke and a passport with at least six months' validity and a blank page. Since October 5, 2026, every tourist also needs a Kenyan health insurance policy. The government's eCitizen insurance page cites Gazette Notice 11492 of July 30, 2026 for the rule and lists the premium at up to $44 per person, one policy each. A US Embassy notice says airlines have been asked to check it before boarding. If your trip crosses into Tanzania, the Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam reports that Tanzania has required its own $44 policy since October 1, so you'll need both.

The State Department raised Kenya to Level 3, "Reconsider travel", on October 19, 2026, citing health risks. Its do-not-travel list includes two Nairobi neighborhoods, the far northeast, Lamu and the coast north of Malindi, West Pokot, western Turkana and the Ethiopian border. The Mara, Amboseli, Samburu and Laikipia aren't on it. On the day of the change, the CDC posted a Level 1 "practice usual precautions" notice on Ebola Bundibugyo virus disease in Kenya. It says Kenya's Ministry of Health has confirmed an imported case, as well as other linked cases, in Nairobi.

The CDC's Kenya page lists malaria in every area below 2,500 meters, game parks included, so every trip here goes through a malaria zone. It also recommends the yellow fever vaccine for travelers going anywhere outside Nairobi city, the former North Eastern Province and most of the coast, so a Mara safari falls in the recommended zone. Kenya doesn't require the vaccine if you fly in directly from the US. Fares from US cities, the New York nonstop and the full entry rules are on our flights to Kenya page.
