Vietnam eSIM: data plans compared with Southeast Asia bundles

Vietnam's 3 GB, 30-day plan costs $3.53 a gigabyte, the worst rate in the Vietnam table, and the country's four operators score anywhere from 1.4 to 8.4 out of 10 for coverage.

On eSIMania's list of November 5, 2026, 10 GB for 30 days cost $19.76 in Vietnam and $15.54 in Thailand. Each of Vietnam's eight plans has a same-size twin on Thailand's list, and Vietnam is dearer on seven of them. The 2 GB plan for 15 days matches, at $6.00.

Your home carrier is the other price to beat. On November 7, 2026, Verizon's TravelPass countries page listed Vietnam at $12 a day, which makes a week $84 against $2.85 for 1 GB of eSIM data. T-Mobile's list of included destinations has Vietnam on it, and its plans page gives the allowances: Experience Beyond and Go5G Next plans get up to 15 GB of high-speed data there, Experience More plans up to 5 GB, then speeds fall to 256 Kbps. Our eSIM guide covers the install and the phone checks.

Vietnam eSIM plans and prices

Eight plans, all data only, so no Vietnamese number. Cheapest first; each size links to that plan on eSIMania.

5 GB30 days$12.63
10 GB30 days$19.76
20 GB30 days$33.33
50 GB180 days$105.89

eSIMania's own Vietnam page showed these same prices on November 7. It also marked the three biggest as discounts: the 10 GB plan from $21.96, the 20 GB plan from $39.21 and the 180-day plan from $132.36.

Which size to buy

Skip the 3 GB plan for 30 days. At $10.58 it comes to $3.53 a gigabyte, the worst rate in the table and worse than the 1 GB week at $2.85. Step up to 5 GB for $2.05 more and the rate drops to $2.53. At 10 GB it's $1.98, and at 20 GB it's $1.67.

For a trip of ten days or so, the real choice is 2 GB for 15 days at $6.00 or 3 GB for 15 days at $8.10. The extra gigabyte costs $2.10.

The 50 GB plan for 180 days, at $105.89 or $2.12 a gigabyte, is the one to price against your stay. Three 20 GB plans bought one after another, at $33.33 each, cost $99.99 and cover 60 GB over three months. A fourth month takes that to $133.32, so the 180-day plan wins only on a stay longer than three months, and it's 50 GB for the whole time.

Vietnam plus a neighbor

A bundle holds one pool of data for every country it covers. Two single-country plans give you the full size twice. Compare at the same total number of gigabytes.

The first two bundles below exist only in eSIMania's November 5 feed. eSIMania's own site had no page for either on November 7, so their prices come from that feed alone and aren't a current listing.

Regional bundles that include Vietnam, in US dollars, listed November 5, 2026
Bundle1 GB, 7 days3 GB, 30 days
South East Asia (8 areas)8 areas listed, including Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia$3.30$11.20
Asia (14 areas)14 areas listed, including Vietnam, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia$3.12$10.52
Asia (7 areas)7 areas listed, including Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia$6.00$17.07

Take a route through Vietnam and Thailand on about 3 GB in all. In that feed, Asia (14 areas) was $10.52, six cents under Vietnam's own 3 GB plan. But if you can split the data up front, Vietnam 2 GB for 15 days ($6.00) plus Thailand 1 GB for 7 days ($2.40) is $8.40 for the same 3 GB. The bundle's case is one install, not a lower price.

Cambodia shows the limit. Asia (7 areas) is the one bundle that can be checked on eSIMania's own site, and its page lists Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Its 3 GB plan for 30 days is $17.07, or $5.69 a gigabyte. On November 7, eSIMania's site listed Cambodia's 3 GB plan at $10.88, so separate 3 GB plans for Vietnam ($10.58) and Cambodia cost $21.46 for 6 GB in all, or $3.58 a gigabyte. The bundle is cheaper only because it holds half the data.

Which network you'll be on

eSIMania's Vietnam page doesn't name the network behind its plans. In Opensignal's August 2026 report, based on measurements from April 1 to June 29, 2026, Viettel scored 8.4 out of 10 for coverage of populated areas. Vinaphone scored 5.5, MobiFone 4.3 and Vietnamobile 1.4.

The report rates those four operators only, so ask eSIMania's support which one your plan uses before you buy.

Before you install

eSIMania says the countdown starts when you arrive in a covered country, or straight away if you install while already there. Its tip is to install before departure and switch the line's data on only when you need it. A 30-day plan bought at home starts its 30 days when you land.

If the eSIM fails before you've used any data, eSIMania's refund page offers a full refund when you ask within 14 business days of buying. The QR code stays valid for 6 months from purchase. Calls and texts will go through WhatsApp, FaceTime or another app, using the eSIM's data, so keep your home SIM on if your bank texts you codes.

The rest of the trip

A working eSIM in the arrivals hall is what lets you pick a ride app over a pre-booked driver. Our airport transfers guide compares the two, with JFK as its worked example. The tours and tickets guide explains what timed tickets and skip-the-line fees buy, and the travel insurance guide covers what a policy pays and how pre-existing conditions affect it.

Does eSIM data cost more in Vietnam than in Thailand?
