Mexico eSIM: data plans compared, and when a bundle is cheaper

AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon include Mexico on some plans. For everyone else, here are eSIMania's November 5, 2026 prices and the one size where its North America bundle undercuts the Mexico plan, by $43.63.

Of the 15 destinations in the table in our eSIM guide, taken from eSIMania's November 5, 2026 feed, Mexico was the most expensive. One gigabyte for a week cost $6.00, against $1.68 for Turkey and $2.40 for Japan in the same listing. Before you pay that, find out whether your US plan already covers Mexico. AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon all include it on some plans, according to their own pages in November 2026:

  • AT&T says its unlimited plans include data, talk and text in Mexico, with a caveat in the small print: off AT&T's own network, speeds can fall to 2G.
  • T-Mobile lists Mexico and Canada as not charged on qualifying postpaid plans, with up to 30 GB of high-speed data depending on the plan.
  • Verizon includes Mexico on its Unlimited plans. On other Verizon plans, TravelPass is $6 a day there.

A prepaid eSIM is still the answer on prepaid lines, smaller carriers and older plans, and it's a fallback if AT&T's 2G problem hits where you're staying.

Mexico plans, cheapest first

Mexico eSIM plans on eSIMania, lowest price first, in US dollars, listed November 5, 2026
PlanValid forPrice
1 GB7 days$6.00
2 GB15 days$10.65
3 GB15 days$14.82
3 GB30 days$19.74
5 GB30 days$23.82
10 GB30 days$38.10
20 GB30 days$64.08
50 GB30 days$183.07

Work out the price per gigabyte and two plans look poor. The 30-day 3 GB plan costs $19.74, or $6.58 a gigabyte, the worst rate in the table and worse even than the 1 GB week at $6.00. For $4.08 more, the 5 GB plan covers the same 30 days at about $4.76 a gigabyte. The 50 GB plan is the other one to skip. At $183.07 it works out to about $3.66 a gigabyte, while 20 GB costs $3.20 a gigabyte.

Leave those two out and the choice follows the length of the trip. For one week of light use, the 1 GB plan at $6.00 is enough. The 15-day 3 GB plan, $14.82, covers a two-week trip with photos and maps. For a month, pick 5 GB at $23.82 or 10 GB at $38.10.

The bundle is cheaper at one size

eSIMania's North America bundle covers Mexico, Canada and the United States on one eSIM. It listed nine plans on November 5:

North America bundle (Canada, Mexico and the United States), US dollars
PlanValid forPrice
1 GB7 days$6.24
1 GB30 days$11.52
3 GB15 days$16.14
3 GB30 days$21.92
5 GB30 days$26.70
10 GB30 days$45.90
20 GB30 days$69.12
20 GB90 days$108.63
50 GB180 days$139.44

Size for size, Mexico's own plans cost less right up to 20 GB. The 1 GB week is $6.00 against $6.24, 3 GB for 30 days is $19.74 against $21.92, and 10 GB is $38.10 against $45.90.

At 50 GB it flips. The bundle's 50 GB costs $139.44 and lasts 180 days, while Mexico's 50 GB costs $183.07 and lasts 30. That's $43.63 less for six times the validity, so anyone who needs that much data should buy the bundle even if they never cross a border. The bundle also has the only month-long 1 GB plan, at $11.52, which suits a long stay on Wi-Fi with data only for maps.

A Mexican SIM instead

eSIMania's plans are data only: no Mexican number, no calls, no texts. If you need a local number, say for a long rental where the landlord calls, a SIM from a Mexican carrier is the way to get one, and it now takes ID. Mexico's telecom regulator, the CRT, requires every mobile line since January 9, 2026 to be linked to a named person or company, and under Article 20 of its rules a foreign visitor registers with a passport or a temporary CURP.

Before you buyYour phone must be unlocked. On an iPhone, Settings, then General, then About should show "No SIM Restrictions" next to Carrier Lock. After you install the eSIM, turn on data roaming for that line, which eSIMania's setup notes require, and leave it off on your home line unless your US plan covers Mexico.

Every eSIMania plan allows a Wi-Fi hotspot, so one phone on the 10 GB plan can keep a travel partner's phone online too. For the Caribbean coast, our Cancun and Riviera Maya guide covers the region, and our airport transfers guide compares shuttles, taxis and pre-booked private cars.

Frequently asked questions

I'm on an AT&T unlimited plan. Do I need a Mexico eSIM?

For coverage, no: Mexico is included on AT&T's unlimited plans. Speed is the catch, because AT&T's small print says data off its own Mexican network may run at 2G. If that's where you'll be, the $6.00 one-week eSIM is a cheap backup.

Is the North America bundle cheaper than a Mexico plan?

Only at 50 GB. In the November 5, 2026 listing the bundle's 50 GB plan was $139.44 for 180 days, and Mexico's was $183.07 for 30 days. At every smaller size the Mexico plan cost less.

Does a Mexico eSIM come with a Mexican phone number?

Not from eSIMania, whose plans carry data only, with no calls or texts. A SIM from a Mexican carrier gives you a local number, and since January 9, 2026 it has to be registered to you, which a visitor does with a passport or a temporary CURP.

Which plan fits a one-week beach trip?

The cheapest is 1 GB for 7 days at $6.00. For $8.82 more, 3 GB for 15 days ($14.82 on November 5, 2026) triples the data and still covers you if the trip runs past a week.
