Canada eSIM: data plans and a North America bundle compared
What eSIMania charged for Canada data on November 5, 2026, which US carriers already include Canada, and the Rockies highway where no plan gets a signal.
Look at your own phone plan before you pay for a Canada eSIM. T-Mobile's roaming page says calls, texts and data in Canada and Mexico aren't charged on qualifying postpaid plans, with up to 30 GB of high-speed data depending on the plan. Verizon's TravelPass page says its Unlimited plans include Canada at no extra cost, and TravelPass costs $6 a day there on other plans. If you're on one of those, an eSIM adds little.
A prepaid eSIM is for everyone else: prepaid lines, carriers that charge by the day, and long stays. Verizon, for one, says it may limit service if more than half your use over 60 days is in Canada or Mexico. This page compares the 8 Canada plans eSIMania listed on November 5, 2026. Our eSIM guide covers how the technology works.
Canada plans on eSIMania, November 5, 2026
All eight are data only, priced in US dollars, cheapest first. Each size links to that plan.
| Plan | Valid for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $4.71 |
| 3 GB | 15 days | $11.25 |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $14.44 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $17.40 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $30.00 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $45.63 |
| 75 GB | 30 days | $74.20 |
| 50 GB | 30 days | $158.45 |
Read the last two rows twice. The 75 GB plan for 30 days costs $74.20, and the 50 GB plan for the same 30 days costs $158.45, $84.25 more for less data. The listing gives no reason, and eSIMania's own Canada page showed the same prices in November. Skip the 50 GB plan.
Below that, the price per gigabyte falls as the plans grow. The 1 GB week is $4.71. Five gigabytes for a month work out to about $3.48 each, 10 GB to $3.00 and 20 GB to about $2.28. The 75 GB plan comes to about 99 cents a gigabyte, the lowest in the table, and it's only $28.57 more than the 20 GB plan. Anyone who streams or tethers a laptop should price it first.
Light users have a smaller decision. For a trip of up to 15 days, 3 GB costs $11.25. Stretching the same 3 GB to 30 days costs $14.44.
Canada sits near the top of the range. Of the 15 destinations in our eSIM guide's November 5 table, only Mexico charged more for 1 GB over 7 days. Japan's was $2.40.
When the North America bundle is worth it
eSIMania also sells one plan for Canada, Mexico and the United States. Here are its nine sizes, from the same November 5 listing.
| Plan | Valid for | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $6.24 |
| 1 GB | 30 days | $11.52 |
| 3 GB | 15 days | $16.14 |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $21.92 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $26.70 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $45.90 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $69.12 |
| 20 GB | 90 days | $108.63 |
| 50 GB | 180 days | $139.44 |
Where the two lists overlap, Canada on its own costs less. Three gigabytes for 30 days are $14.44 against $21.92 on the bundle, and 10 GB are $30.00 against $45.90. The bundle wins on length instead. It has a 1 GB plan that lasts 30 days for $11.52, 20 GB for 90 days at $108.63, and 50 GB for 180 days at $139.44, none of which the Canada list matches. For a US traveler it pays off on a long trip that takes in Mexico too, on a phone plan that covers neither country.
Driving the Icefields Parkway offline
No plan fixes a missing tower. Parks Canada says there's no year-round cell coverage on the Icefields Parkway, the 232 km road from Lake Louise to Jasper. From May to early October there's limited coverage at the Columbia Icefield, and none anywhere else on the route.
So do the downloading in town. Save offline maps for the whole road, your campground or hotel confirmations and anything you'd look up on the way, before you leave Lake Louise or Jasper. Parks Canada lists one gas station on the parkway, at Saskatchewan River Crossing, and it's summer only, so fill the tank too.
Setting up before the flight
Your phone has to be unlocked. On an iPhone, open Settings, then General, then About: "No SIM Restrictions" next to Carrier Lock means you're clear. Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, because eSIMania's install guide needs a connection and says activation can take up to 10 minutes.
When you land, turn on data roaming for the eSIM line only. eSIMania's setup notes ask for that, and leaving it off on your home line keeps your carrier's roaming charges away. The plan has no Canadian number and no texts. Calling apps work over the data, and every eSIMania plan allows a hotspot.

Frequently asked questions
Does my US phone plan already work in Canada?
On some plans, yes. T-Mobile's roaming page says calls, texts and data in Canada aren't charged on qualifying postpaid plans. Verizon includes Canada on its Unlimited plans and sells TravelPass for $6 a day on others. Prepaid lines and other carriers have their own rules, so read your plan's international page before you buy an eSIM.
Why does the 50 GB Canada plan cost more than the 75 GB plan?
The listing doesn't say. On November 5, 2026 it priced 50 GB for 30 days at $158.45 and 75 GB for 30 days at $74.20, and eSIMania's own Canada page showed the same two prices in November. Buy the 75 GB plan.
Will I get a Canadian phone number?
No. eSIMania says its plans carry internet data only, with no calls or text messages. WhatsApp, FaceTime and other calling apps run over the data.
Can I share the eSIM's data with a laptop?
Yes. eSIMania's help pages say every plan allows a Wi-Fi hotspot. For a work trip with a laptop on the hotspot, start with the 75 GB plan at $74.20 rather than stacking smaller ones.
